Who are Dana and Dave?
Dana and Dave are two young men doing their part to put action to words as they embark on a cross-country cycling journey from Los Angeles, CA to Myrtle Beach, SC on a mission for adventure and to raise money for the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
Founded in 1997 by cancer survivor and champion cyclist Lance Armstrong, the LAF believes that in the battle with cancer, knowledge is power and attitude is everything. From the moment of diagnosis, the Foundation provides the practical information and tools people living with cancer need to live strong.
For almost three years Dana Carr has been living strong. As a successful high school runner, he was recruited to attend Bucknell University. After four successful years running with the Bison, Dana was diagnosed with skin cancer shortly after graduation. He was a 22-year-old healthy runner and triathlete diagnosed with cancer! Dana underwent surgery, which successfully removed the malignant melanoma, and fortunately the biopsy of the local lymph nodes came back negative!
David Benyo gained a different perspective through his college Baseball Coach Bob Bellizzi, who was diagnosed with Leukemia and required a bone marrow transplant. None-the-less, Coach Bellizzi continued coaching, battling cancer and surviving the chemo treatments…all while becoming the NCAA's Division II coach ranked 16th with most career wins and taking his team to the NCAA Baseball World Series. Coach Bellizzi is an inspiration to David and has proven no matter what the odds, you can be strong, endure, and continue living with cancer.
